Sunday, April 26th, OATHS will be having its 5th Annual Fundraiser at both Westside Drive Ins in Boise. Over 150 volunteers from Bishop Kelly High School and St. Joe’s Elementary School will be there handing out OATHS brochures, asking for donations, and spreading the word about OATHS. Chef Lou donates a portion of his sales, and all of the Westside employees donate their tips. OATHS and Westside have also invited local homeless students to be their guests for lunch at Westside that day.
OATHS is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 2010 by Ben Skinner. It provides homeless students with what they need to enjoy, succeed, and stay in school. The funds raised will be used to help homeless students attend all kinds of camps this summer including academic, athletic, art, music, dance, cheerleading, and the YMCA camp at Horse Thief Reservoir. This year OATHS has instituted PROJECT TEAM (Tutoring Electronics Activities Mentoring). Our goal is to provide electronic devices for as many homeless students as possible. This will enable them to take online courses, do their homework, and apply for jobs. We also provide funding so that homeless students can enjoy extracurricular activities such as art, music, technology, language, music, yearbook, and athletics. OATHS is also expanding its Tutoring and Mentoring programs. We are now tutoring three days a week after school at City Light and every Tuesday evening at Interfaith Sanctuary.
In five years, OATHS has raised over $150,000 and helped over 2000 local homeless students from 60 different schools succeed in school. Please come and join us at either Westside Drive In on April 26th. The drive ins are located at 1939 State Street and 1113 E. Park Center Boulevard.
